Best chess move

Find a move, then understand it

Begin with the whole position

The best move depends on more than the piece you want to move. Check whose turn it is, the safety of both kings, and the pieces that can be captured. Set up the exact position before asking the engine to analyze it.

A practical three-pass review

  1. Find your candidate. Before using the engine, choose a move and say what it is meant to achieve.
  2. Compare the suggestion. Press Play and wait for the highlighted recommendation. Press Move to apply it. While the session is active, the next position is analyzed too; wait for its suggestion and use Move again to follow the line.
  3. Test your idea. Press Stop, go Back to the decision, and arrange your original continuation. Press Play to investigate the response.

Look for the reason

A strong move may win material, stop a threat, improve a piece, or prepare a useful pawn break. If the point is unclear, start with Play, then use Move for each recommendation until something concrete changes. Press Stop when you want to leave the analysis session. Avoid judging a move from its appearance alone.

Engine choices can vary with the available search time. Use the result to guide your study and examine alternatives.
